The New Science of Teaching

The exponentially increasing production of new data and the advancements in AI learning tools will require teachers to rethink their roles if they are to prepare their students to thrive in this new age of data. The New Science of Teaching: Rethinking a Teachers Role in the Age of Data details the three vital roles teachers must fill in this age of data. The first is to optimize students' learning by teaching in harmony with the most current research on how the brain takes in and processes information, makes memories, and retrieves those memories. This research and how to use it to optimize students' learning is detailed in the first part of this book. The second role is to integrate the teaching of lifelong learning skill into content teaching. A college degree is no longer a guarantee for lifetime employment. If students are to stay employed once leaving school/college they must be able to update their skills and knowledge continually which requires lifelong learning skills. In addition, critical reading and thinking skills are needed to make informed decisions about the value and validity of the endless data available. The process of how to integrate these lifelong learning and critical thinking skills is laid out in the second part of this book. The third role is to teach students how to learn and study in harmony with the current research on how the brain learns and remembers. How to teach these vital learning skills is detailed in the final two chapters of this book.
